A WOMAN has pleaded guilty to assaulting her husband with a Christmas decoration.
Judith Sillett, of Church Street, Rhos, admitted slapping her husband Stephen and hitting him on the back of the head with a bauble after a dispute with a neighbour led the couple to argue with each other.
The 58-year-old also admitted stopping Mr Sillett from leaving the couple’s home during the argument.
She appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Friday to face a charge of assault at their home on January 6 and was told she was lucky to be avoiding a restraining order.
Justin Espie, prosecuting, told the court Sillett, described as a changeable and volatile woman, had attacked her husband while he was sleeping.
He was woken up by the force of something being thrown at his head.
Mr Espie said: “Mr Sillett revealed his wife regularly displayed very controlling behaviour and had abused him on numerous occasions when her temper got out of control. This behaviour led him to drink in order to cope.
“On this occasion, after being woken by his wife lashing out at him, he attempted to leave for the police station but she blocked his way.
“Eventually he managed to call the police and when she realised this she let him go.
“He took his dog and some belongings and went to Rhos Police Station.”
However, the court heard Sillett’s rage had been sparked by her husband’s suggestion she was having an affair which greatly offended her.
During questioning officers described the incident as “the most ridiculous case that had ever been brought to their attention”.
Since the incident, the couple had been reconciled and were hoping to make another go of the relationship.
Sillett was handed a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
