Morrison rocket seals Llandudno's recovery

LLANDUDNO ended their losing run in style this week after completing the double over title favourites Rhyl.

A rocket from debutant striker Steve Morrison, signed this week on loan from Bala Town, proved the difference between the two sides, as a classic Llandudno rearguard action kept a clean sheet against the free scoring Lilywhites.

Tudno boss Deiniol Graham was delighted with the way his side defended as they put to bed a three game losing streak.

“I think after three defeats and conceding some sloppy goals, we set up with a 5-3-2 to stop them scoring, and it worked a treat. Everyone went out and did their jobs, and it’s satisfying when everyone does their job.

“They are one of the league’s top scorers and I think have conceded the least, and I think we’ll be the only ones who do the double over them.

“I think the break didn’t do us any favours and a few lads enjoyed Christmas too much, but we’ve stepped up the training and I hope that’ll give them their confidence back.

The win also sets Llandudno up perfectly for their Welsh Cup date with Aberystwyth this weekend, and Graham said that he fancied his side’s chances of causing a cup upset.

“It’s something we’ve been looking at for a few weeks. I watched Aber on TV and I saw them a few weeks ago, so we’ve got a bit of insight into them,” he said.

“I don’t think the lads have anything to fear, and if we play the way we did the other day then I’m confident we can get a result.”

Despite missing five first team-regulars, Llandudno were rarely troubled by the hosts, and a thunderbolt into the top corner from 23 year old Morrison midway through the first half proved to be the winner.

Former Llandudno midfielder Danny Hughes headed a good chance wide on the stroke of half time, and former Airbus winger Paul McManus failed to connect with Paul Mooney’s cross in the second as Rhyl ran out of ideas.

Llandudno FC are organising a coach for supporters to cheer on the team in their Welsh Cup match at Aberystwyth.

Seats are available for all supporters at a cost of £10 per head and £5 for children, leaving Maesdu Park on Builder Street at 9am. Contact secretary Glyn Lister on 07867724027 for more information.
