LLANDRINDOD High School is gearing up for the Olympics – with its own version of the 2012 logo competition.
The controversial real-life 2012 logo cost half a million pounds, but pupils showed that they can do just as well, if not better, for free.
The medal winners and runners-up of the Olympic logo competition were as follows: runners-up Emma Kolano-Rogers 9B, Sarah Powell 10C, Moti Alder 10B. Bronze medal: Antonia Woods 10C. Silver medal: Breanna Downey 8D. Gold medal: Kenneth Rees 8D.
Kenneth’s logo will be used on posters, flags, T-shirts and flyers to promote activities that will happen each week from January to July leading up to the Olympics themselves.
The activities are part of the Olympic Lunch competition starting this month. All classes will be representing a particular country and pupils will compete to score points for their team.
Pupils can score points by showing the values of the Olympics, such as respect and fair play, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
These will be awarded by members of staff, school ambassadors and the head boy and head girl. Each example will be worth one point to the team.
Other ways of scoring points include attending the Olympic Experiences (five points for each time pupils attend and get your Olympics card signed); by attending school clubs, matches and practices (10 points); by attending clubs and exercise classes outside of school, including leisure centres (15 points); by competing in the Llandrindod 2012 competitions, including non-sporting ones. For first place there is a gold medal and 300 points; second place, a silver medal and 200 points; third place – a bronze medal and 100 points; and fourth place – 50 points.
