A POWYS car salesman has admitted almost half a million pounds worth of fraud and false accounting before magistrates today (January 5).

Christopher David Like, 47, of Hay-on-Wye, pleaded guilty to 34 charges of fraud by false representation, and one charge of false accounting, when he appeared before Brecon Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He admitted that between April 2008 and January 2009, he continued to finance a number of motor vehicles with Ford Credit Europe (FCE) even though the vehicles had been sold, resulting in a loss to FCE and intending to make a gain for himself and J.V.Like & Sons, the dealership where he worked, in Three Cocks.

Like denied two charges of fraud alleged to have taken place in January 2009, bringing the total amount he has admitted to more than £481,500.

The full story will be in next week's County Times, out on January 13.
