PENYCAE 1
RUTHIN TOWN 1
IT’S now three games without defeat for Ruthin Town in their efforts to pull clear of the Cymru Alliance drop zone.
However, it could have been so much better for Steve Crompton’s side, who had the lead for long stages of their vital six-pointer at Penycae, only to concede a late equaliser.
“At the end of the day, we were disappointed with the result,” said Crompton.
“But, if you look at it on paper, we haven’t lost.”
A good goal had Ruthin in front in the first half.
A through ball released frontman Josh Davies and he pulled it back for Craig Wilkinson to break the deadlock.
“Craig Wilkinson has been brilliant since he’s come,” said Crompton.
Ruthin created a range of opportunities to stretch their advantage, but they were unable to take them.
“If we had taken them, we would have been clear winners,” added the Town boss.
But Ruthin found themselves pegged back with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining after they lost possession in the middle of the park.
Tom Allen popped up to give Penycae a share of the spoils, as Ruthin keeper Jamie Hulse conceded only his third goal in the last four matches.
That was a disappointing moment for the visitors and Crompton added: “We were comfortable and I don’t think Jamie Hulse had much to do in the second half.”
Despite conceding the late equaliser, it was still a pretty good day all round for Ruthin.
Basement side Rhos Aelwyd suffered a 2-0 home reverse at the hands of Cefn Druids, while next-to-bottom Llangefni Town lost 3-1 at home to Conwy United.
