ENGINEERS have been working flat out preparing to begin construction work on one of the world’s largest windfarms.
The Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm, which is located 13kms off the North Wales coast, will consist of 160 turbines producing a total of 576 MW of energy from the wind, two offshore substations, a large new onshore substation and eleven kilometres of underground cabling.
Once fully operational, Gwynt y Môr is expected to produce energy equivalent to the average annual needs of around 400,000 homes.
Offshore construction is expected to start in early 2012, with the development being operational in 2014.
The Pioneer took an exclusive look back through the work carried out over the last 12 months.
