ONE of the most relieved managers to be the first Winter freeze of the season was Chirk’s Richard Cooke Williams.
He was dreading the thought of his side’s North East Wales FA Cup clash at Sychdyn being wiped out and causing a backlog of games.
It was far from being a pretty opening half on a quagmire of a pitch but after a barren opening half it all came good in the end. On the hour Naz Farhat struck twice and in a late flurry, Steve Allman, Jason Willams and Alun Williams eventually made the tie safe.
In the Welsh National League Premier Division, Brymbo were on the canvas at half time when visitors Corwen were three up through Will Roberts (2) and Ryan Harden.
Steve Jones weighed with a double for Brymbo after the break and Stewart Parry levelled before man of the match Azzy Davies netted Brymbo’s winner with 12 minutes remaining.
Coedpoeth United signalled they are back to their best and they sank Llangollen Town 3-0. Nicky McCormack notched a goal in each half and man of the match Ashton Williams got the third.
With Steve Davies back at the helm, FC Cefn demolished Hawarden Rangers 5-1.
Nicky Williams (2), Paul Mazzarella and Lee Jones carved out a 4-1 half time lead and then Williams completed his hat-trick in the second half which capped an excellent all round display. Things could have got worse for the visitors but Sean Jones missed a penalty.
In Division One, Borras Park Albion showed why many think they are a cut apart from the rest and they destroyed Mold Juniors 12-0.
Nial Challoner again proved what hot property he is and he weighed in with five goals. Wrapping up the whitewash were Stuart Williams with a treble, Matt Rowlands, Corey Smart, Barry Torrence and Adam Roberts sealing this one sided affair.
Leon Bowen returned to the Castell Alun line up with a hat-trick in his side’s 6-0 romp against Hawkesbury Villa.
Completing the debacle were the much travelled Alan Rocke (2) and rookie Phil Evans.
It was always expected that Colin Parry would steady the Lex ship and his side came up trumps to defeat Glynceiriog 5-2. Back on the scene was Derek Nurse and he added to strikes from Jamie Evans, Owen Williams (2) and Richard Wright.
Penley seem to have turned the corner and best demonstrated by their 5-3 success over Acrefair Youth and their marksmen were Andrew Watkin with treble, Aaron Williams and Ian Davies.
Just three games survived in the Reserves Division and the renaissance at Cefn Druids continued and they sent Borras Park Albion crashing to a 9-3 defeat. Aaron Blackwell and Ian Hughes notched two goals apiece with Dean Williams, Alex Williams, Lewis Jones and Jack Edwards completed the debacle.
Overton shared a 1-1 draw with Gresford Athletic and the hosts netted through man of the match Rob Ward.
Ruthin Town chalked up a 5-2 victory over Castell Alun Colts who hit back through Nathan Davies (2) but making up Ruthin’s tally were Jack Williams and Iolo Hughes wit two goals apiece and Alan Davies.
In the Reserves and Colts Division , Garden Village went down 4-3 to Cefn.
All of the local clubs in the Cymru Alliance had their games wiped out.
But it was good news for Ruthin as they chalked up a 3-1 victory against Llangefni Town, now managed by ex-Town boss Ady Jones.
The opening half ended goal-less and then Sam Griffiths managed to break the deadlock.
New arrival Asa Hamilton stretched their lead before a 70th minute effort from Josh Davies put the game beyond doubt so a response from John Owen from the penalty spot was too little too late.
Llandudno just shaded their encounter with Penrhyncoch 3-2 while Llanrhaeadr were held to a 1-1 draw by managerless Conwy United.
Halkyn United managed to beat the weather - but the Flintshire side will have been wishing they hadn’t after losing 5-1 at Llandyrnog United in Division Two of the Welsh Alliance.
A Joel Thomas goal three minutes from time provided the only moment of note for Halkyn who were five goals down at the time thanks to efforts from Danny Roberts, Daniel Jones, Lucas Cruz, Liam Jones and Simon Brown.
Greenfield’s match at Llanberis looked set to go ahead, but the visitors coach broke down en route and the game was postponed.
In Division One, Denbigh Town saw their ground passed fit and they duly recorded a 3-0 home success over Gwalchmai.
Connah’s Quay Tigers booked their place in the next round of the Clwyd League East Division Premier Cup with a convincing 8-2 home victory over Acton Village.
Despite first half goals from Acton’s Aaron Aby and Lee Faraday, Tigers progressed thanks largely to a hat-trick from Scott Stanley.
Danny Harwin added a brace and further goals from Jake Wynne, Brynley Preece and Paul Cooper completed the rout.
