RYDAL Penrhos equestrian ace Georgia Wilson has been been awarded a £1,500 sporting excellence prize.
Georgia, 16, who is a Grade III para-equestrian dressage champion from Abergele, has been given an OCS Young Sport Person Award in recognition of her outstanding sporting ability at an awards ceremony hosted by BBC sport commentator Clare Balding.
Georgia said she was “over the moon” to scoop the prize in the Disabled Category for Wales at the ceremony, which was held at the Kia Oval in London.
“I’m over the moon,” said Georgia. “To win the title for the Disabled Category in Wales is awesome and the funding from OCS will really help me out tremendously.”
Georgia, who has cerebral palsy which affects the left hand side of her body, won five competitions over the last year, including the Moorsele Belgium U21s Para Dressage and the British Para National Championships.
The awards are designed to reward junior athletes with a sports bursary, taking the pressure off by offering help at the start of their sporting careers.
