A WOMAN racially abused her neighbour and threw her washing around the garden, Welshpool Magistrates Court heard.
Lillian Pugh, 54, of Bryn y Gog, Machynlleth, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harrassment, racially aggravated assault, assault by beating and using threatening words or behaviour.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said the incident had taken place at around 11.30am on July 4.
Heather Vaughan was at home at Bryn y Gog when Pugh entered her garden, swearing and telling her to turn her music down.
Pugh knocked on the back door and pushed Mrs Vaughan in the chest and directed abuse at her while also calling her a gypsy. Pugh then shouted Mrs Vaughan’s husband was a thief before pulling clothes off the washing line and throwing them around the garden.
One witness told police she had heard Pugh walk in to the garden shouting abuse about Mrs Vaughan being a gypsy.
She told police she had seen Pugh leave the garden with a black and white rug which she then threw away.
After her arrest Pugh told officers, while repeatedly using the terms ‘gypsy’ and ‘gyppo’: “I’ll show you trouble, I’ll sort them out’.
In interview Pugh told police her day had started at 4.20am and she had drunk three pints of cider by the time she had decide to confront Mrs Vaughan about the volume of the music.
Pugh also denied pushing Mrs Vaughan and denied being a racist.
Huw Williams, mitigating, said: “The lady here clearly has a number of issues.”
He added that Pugh had requested help for alcohol abuse of her own volition.
Pugh was given a 12 month community order with a supervision requirement and ordered to pay £150 costs.
She was also given a prohibited activity requirement which prevents her from communicating with Heather Vaughan unless approval is given by her offender manager.
