Newtown 0 Llanelli 2
A GOAL at the end of each half was all that seperated the sides as Newtown restored lost pride at Latham Park.
Earlier in the campaign Newtown suffered humiliation in a 9-2 defeat in the reverse fixture but a repeat never looked on the cards on Saturday.
Instead Newtown matched their lofty visitors stride for stride and made a mockery of the current table.
In the end Llanelli had enough to see them over the finish line with Antonio Corbisierio who pounced on an 89th minute loose ball to settle the outcome.
Both Kevin Davies and captain Matthew Cook fired wide in the opening exhanges while the lauded Llanelli attack led by Rhys Griffiths was marked out of the game.
However Newtown manager Bernard McNally was forced into changes after half an hour when defender Davies sustained an injury.
Llanelli wasted no time upon resumption and ended the half on top.
The breakthrough arrived on the stroke of half-time with Stuart Jones rising above the Newtown defence to head home a cross from Griffiths.
Newtown enjoyed limited attacking success with their long balls to their fleet footed forward line all too often repelled by the Llanelli rearguard.
Newtown were rarely troubled with Gareth Partridge scrambling his lines clear with goalkeeper Nick Thomas stranded one of the home side’s closest calls.
Corbisiero was denied from distance by Thomas while the post denied an inswinging free-kick from former TNS winger Craig Williams.
Once again a goal at the end of the half ensured Llanelli the spoils with Thomas parrying a shot by Williams into the path of Corbisiero who made no mistake from six yards.
