DEESIDE company Wagtail UK is celebrating a treble victory at Flintshire Business Awards.

The country’s leading specialist detection dog training company, it took the honours at a glittering ceremony at Saughton Hall.

Managing director of Wagtail UK, Collin Singer, was awarded the title of Businessperson of the Year and associate director, Louise Wilson, took the highly acclaimed title of Women into Business for the second consecutive year.

The company was also named Small Business of the Year.

This success closely follows Wagtail’s acclaim in winning the Home Office Supplier of the Year Award in recognition of its efforts in saving the UK Border Forces over £140m through the prevention of entry into the UK of more than 7,000 illegal immigrants.

“Winning the Home Office Award was a massive achievement for us, but our success in the Flintshire business community marks a significant milestone in our commercial credentials,” said Collin.

“I have received the award on behalf of all our professional team of 22 staff and dogs who have put in an incredible effort to build Wagtail UK into a company of great stature. The award is for all of them.”

Louise recently launched Wagtail UK’s conservation dogs division, which trains them to detect endangered species for conservation purposes and other rare species and pests for commercial reasons.

“I am delighted that our contribution to the Flintshire business sector has been recognised,” said Louise.

“All too often it is easy to work for individual professional and commercial goals and not see the impact of these on the wider community.

“I think the Flintshire Business Awards provides an ideal opportunity to gain a broader perspective on the vital role every business plays within its business arena.”

Wagtail UK was established in October 2002 and has gone on to become the UK’s leading specialist dog company, providing services throughout the world to detect firearms, explosives, drugs, tobacco, cash, human remains, and illegal immigrants.

The company provides specialist dogs for the civil police, armed forces, trading standards, UK Border Agency and the private security industry both here and overseas.
