Mold gave head coach Les Byrne something to cheer about as they recorded a 36-13 Division One North victory over Llangefni.
The game itself was a battle of wills, rugby played with robust spirit which had the teams surging from end to end.
Mold played courageous, running rugby for the most part and matched Llangefni in the attrition stakes, with smothering defence.
Cai Edwards’ well-worked try in the third minute was an indication of what was to come as Mold produced some industrious play.
The visitors responded, first with a penalty and then crossing for a converted try for a 14-10 deficit at the break after Aled Ellis had finished off an earlier powering run from Alex Green for the hosts.
Llangefni closed the gap with a penalty early in the second period, but Mold rallied to run out comfortable winners, helped largely by the kicking of captain Steve Quinton.
From two of the resulting lineouts, Mold added scores thanks to a brace of tries from stalwart Chris Lewis who was playing his first game of the campaign.
Going into the last quarter with a 28-13 cushion, Mold added a penalty from Quinton before they stole Llangefni ball and Richard Hopkins raced clear to score.
Byrne was deservedly buoyant with the win saying: “We put in a good performance, we did create opportunities, and we played enough of pressure rugby to beat a strong Llangefni side.
“It was a far from a perfect performance, particularly with handling errors creeping in when tiredness set in, but we held it together well in other quarters to renew our belief.
“It was a good result for the lads and one that we can all be proud of.”
Bala failed to enjoy their Friday night trip to Nant Conwy as they fell to a 13-0 defeat.
Caernarfon edged their top of the table encounter with hosts Bro Ffestiniog 22-16, Pwllheli thumped Llandudno 76-11 and Ruthin’s game at Bethesda was postponed.
Wrexham and Dolgellau agreed to postpone their Division Two North encounter due to Wales semi-final with France.
The completed second tier games saw Denbigh defeat Abergele 35-7, Colwyn Bay overcome Machynlleth 62-7, Llanidloes edge past Newtown 20-17 and Cobra enjoy a similarly close run win as they beat Rhyl 19-16.
