Gaz Bromley

Welsh Cup, first round

Montgomery Town 4 Connah's Quay Town 0

GAZ Bromley led the scoring with a hat-trick as Montgomery Town continued to attack on all fronts.

The Spar Mid Wales League One leaders kept their unbeaten record in all competitions intact, with a confident display against the Welsh Alliance Division Two visitors.

A disallowed first minute strike from an offside Mark Williams was as good as it got for the Deesiders, as Montgomery soon began to turn the screw.

Bromley cut inside to test Quay goalkeeper Daniel Roberts, while Geraint Windsor contrived to balloon over two close range sitters, inside the opening five minutes.

The inevitable breakthrough arrived on nine minutes, with Elliott Jones squaring for Bromley to turn home from six yards.

Six minutes later Jones involved Tom Evans in a right-wing attack, with a beautifully weighted cross turned home by Bromley via a deflection off Ben Howarth.

Monty kept up the pressure with enterprising full-back Lee Parr’s left-wing cross steered wide by Lee Jones, while Bromley was denied his hat-trick by Roberts.

However Roberts was only able to delay the inevitable and on 24 minutes Elliott Jones crafted room on the right for Bromley to slot home his third.

Montgomery controlled the game in baking sun, which made for an enjoyable atmosphere for a cup tie, which the home side totally dominated.

Bromley and Elliott Jones both spurned openings in the first 10 minutes of the second-half, before the latter swivelled home a 12 yard blast with 15 minutes remaining to celebrate a deserved goal.

The visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game in the final 10 minutes, with substitute Lewis Powell denied by a largely unworked Steve Goodwin, while defender David Joyce volleyed wide with a speculative 20-yard effort.
