THE New Saints host Aberystwyth Town as they bid to break away from the chasing pack at the top of the Welsh Premier on Saturday (2.30pm).

The Oswestrians left it late before securing a 2-1 victory at Airbus UK Broughton to stretch their unbeaten record to six games and open a one point lead over Neath at the top of the table.

General manger Ian Williams said: “It was an important win at Airbus. Having beaten Llanelli, Neath and Bangor City in previous games it was vital to keep that going.

“Airbus defended like their lives depended on it, but I felt we deserved the points overall having worked tirelessly over 90 minutes.”

Williams warned the Saints face a similar battle at home to the Seasiders, who have made headlines for all the wrong reasons this season with six red cards and 21 yellow in just eight games.

“Any game against Aberystwyth Town will be tough,” warned Williams. “However we have been working hard in training and will go into the game with confidence.”

Chris Marriott returns to availability following injury but faces a battle to regain his place in defence, following the sensational form of summer signing Tom Roberts, who has joined Saints clubmates Aeron Edwards and Alex Darlington in the Welsh under 23 squad.

“We are all delighted for the lads, particularly Tom who only joined the club in the summer and has been in great form,” said Williams.
