A KIND-HEARTED couple have used their big day to raise more than £800 for a Llandudno hospice.
When Sian and Alasdair Leven married in Scotland earlier this month, they chose to remember “a very special lady and the lynchpin of the King family” - Sian's nana Agnes King
Sian, who is originally from Colwyn Bay but now lives with her Scottish husband Alasdair in Dubai, collected £795 in online donations and more in cash for St David’s Hospice in lieu of wedding gifts.
She said: "We chose St David’s Hospice as the charity of our choice as I wanted to do something to commemorate my nana so that even though she is not with us, she was part of the day.
"She was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and died later that year and was cared for at St David’s. All of our family are extremely grateful for the kindness and support that the staff at the hospice provided.
“As most of our guests came from far and wide, all that we wanted was for everyone to be able to come along and have a good time.
“We set up a Justgiving page for St David’s Hospice and a honeymoon gift list so that people did not have to worry about handing us gifts on the day.”
Sian moved to Dubai when she was eight, but returned to the UK to study at Manchester Metropolitan University and worked in Marks & Spencer in Llandudno.
She now has a job as a PA for the senior management team at Emirates Leisure Retail in Dubai, where she met husband-to-be Alasdair.
The pair tied the knot on September 1 and Sian is delighted that their special day could pay tribute to her nana who she described as “a clever, elegant and extremely funny woman”.
She added: “Sadly most families nowadays are affected by cancer so I think that it is a cause that most people want to support."
