Newtown 0 Neath 4
NEWTOWN were once again outclassed, as title contenders Neath strolled to a comfortable win at Latham Park.
Defeat was not as embarrassing as the previous weekend’s 9-2 annihilation at Llanelli, but another disappointing display will not inspire confidence among the supporters.
A bright start from the home side saw Nicky Rushton twice fire wide inside the opening 20 minutes.
Robbie Millington was also seeing plenty of the ball during the opening spell, with his trickery causing the Eagles’ defence problems.
Neath’s opener came against the run of play on 32 minutes, with defender Matthew Rees scrambling home a corner from Luke Bowen.
Newtown’s problems deepened before half-time, with Bowen nodding home from Luke Cummings’ cross, with home goalkeeper Nick Thomas left with no chance.
It was all one way traffic after the interval with Neath underlining their superiority all over the pitch.
Lee Trundle had been kept relatively quiet, but on the hour linked superbly with Craig Hughes, who squared for Chris Jones to tap home.
Trundle proceeded to dictate the remainder of the clash and was only denied a deserved goal by Thomas.
The goal of the match had yet to arrive and on 87 minutes substitute Kerry Morgan brought the ground to its feet with a contender for the best goal of the season.
The former Swansea City youngster cut inside from the left before crashing a superb shot into the top left corner from 25 yards.
As the rain continued to pour down on Latham Park only the most ardent of Newtown fans could deny this was another poor display.
