PAINTINGS depicting Owain Glyndwr, the famed Prince of Wales and icon of the Welsh nationalist movement, have drawn hundreds of visitors to a Facebook fan site set up in his honour.
Y Mab Darogan (The Son of Prophecy) is a portrait of Owain, while 1400, the year in which the Welsh rebellion began, depicts Owain on a warhorse while a map of Wales burns behind him.
Owen ap Tudur, one of the administrators of the Owain Glyndwr site on Facebook, said: “The response has been nothing short of incredible. In about seven weeks the page has over 740 friends on our list. These new images have caught the attention of people from all over the globe.”
The paintings have drawn the attention of the Society of William Wallace, and the Americymru society in the United States.
The drawings were painted by a Llandudno artist who works under the name Santino Cara, whom Mr ap Tudur describes as a “reclusive character”.
“He has no interest in any limelight, the guy just likes to paint - although he is pleased that people are embracing his work. He is a very quiet person but has a lot of drive to fill Wales full of historic art.”
