A KNITTING group has leant its support to a national childcare charity by knitting woolly learning aids.

Members of the Ty Hapus Purl Knitting Club in Llandudno have been putting their craft skills to good use by knitting a batch of woollen breasts for the new Conwy Breastfeeding Friends peer support group.

The peer supporters are mothers who live in the area who have been trained by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) to provide information and breastfeeding support to parents by telephone, online and through visits to parents' groups and antenatal classes.

The knitted breasts will used as teaching aids to demonstrate positioning and attachments, which will teach new mothers how to breastfeed successfully.

Síona Murray, Aberconwy and Colwyn branch co-ordinator for the NCT, said: "The Purl Knitters are a fantastic group of ladies, whose enthusiasm and dedication to helping those in need in Wales and the Developing world is amazing. The Conwy peer supporters wish to say a huge thank you for their support."

The Purl knitting group, who meet at 11:00am at Tuesday mornings at Ty Hapus, Llandudno, help others to learn new craft skills, while also knitting jumpers and other clothing to help those in need, including babies in the Special Care Baby Unit at Glan Clwyd hospital.
