THE European dream ended for another year as TNS were comprehensively defeated by Midtjylland.

The Saints arrived in Denmark facing an uphill struggle after two goals in the final 10 minutes all but ended their hopes of progress in the first leg at Park Hall last week.

This time around a lively opening saw Richie Partridge clattered inside the area inside the opening 10 minutes only for Georgian referee Levan Kvaratskheli to book the Irishman for diving.

While TNS were undone late at Park Hall it was a different story at the MCH Arena with two goals in the space on a minute midway through the first-half ending Saints hopes.

Sylvester Igboun followed up to prod home a loose ball after Mads Albaek had clattered the bar on 23 minutes.

Just a minute later TNS were left totally exposed as Jason Borring strode through the defence before squaring for Jude Nworuh to make the game safe.

A controversial penalty on half an hour saw Saints goalkeeper Paul Harrison booked after Igboun went down in the area under the Saints No1 challenge.

Danny Olsen repeated his feat from the first-leg by slotting home the penalty.

TNS feared a thrashing as Midtjylland started the second-half just as bright as the first with Nworuh completing his brace on 52 minutes.

Thankfully TNS mustered a response soon after as Alex Darlington powered home a header from Chris Marriott’s corner to raise some rare cheer.

Substitute Chris Sharp headed over as TNS sought further reward for their endeavour and with just a minute remaining Darlington scooped home a 25 yard shot to complete his brace.

Midtjylland had the final say with substitute Mads Hvilsom netting an injury-time goal to complete an 8-3 aggregate victory.
