FAMILY and friends of the Wales Air Ambulance’s 2,000th patient have raised over £5,000 for the charity as a way of saying thank you.

Peter Hilliard, of St Harmon, decided to arrange a sponsored cycle from Rhayader to Welshpool following the incident last month when his son, Daniel, fractured his skull in two places and required airlifting to Hereford Hospital.

Peter said: “We just wanted to say thank you to them for saving my son.”

As a result of the Air Ambulance’s swift action Daniel is now well on the road to recovery.

He had fallen 13 feet onto the floor of a barn near Rhayader while playing with his friends and Peter was alerted to the accident by his two other children Libby and Aiden.

Peter said the incident was one of the most terrifying of his life.

He said: “His little brother and sister came running out and said ‘Daniel’s fallen and he’s not breathing’.

“I went and found him and picked him up and was just limp and honest to God I thought he was taking his last breath.”

Peter said the Air Ambulance crew had performed an amazing job.
