A LOCAL businessman was left as sick as a parrot after the Premier League trophy was damaged during a tour of North Wales.
The trophy, which was being taken on a whilstlestop tour of good causes in Denbighshire, was blown over by the wind at the Little Lambs nursery in Kinmel Bay.
The tour was organised by businessman Mike Walsh, of Walsh Investment Property, who won a day with the trophy at a charity auction in aid of Children in Need.
Mr Walsh said: “I was shocked when I heard - I wasn’t there at the time. They set up a backdrop for it, which the wind blew and forced the cup to topple over.
“The neck of the trophy was pushed in, and because the trophy is priceless, they took it away immediately. It was just one of those things.”
The priceless piece of silverware, which weighs four stone and is made of solid sterling silver, had been under the supervision of two guards throughout the tour, who whisked the dented cup away as soon as it was dropped.
Officials in charge of the trophy have since apologised to Mr Walsh for the accident, and promised to return the cup for a full day in the near future.
Mr Walsh said: “They said they were very sorry, and would be re-arranging it for another day. The fella in charge was very apologetic.”
“I’ll hopefully now get a full day with it and be able to take it around! If anybody wants to see it, they should just let me know.
The cup had already visited Ysgol Bryn Hedydd school, Prestatyn Town Football Club and the Rhyl Journal office before the tour was abruptly ended.
