LLANGYNHAFAL 2
LLANRHAEADR 6

FOLLOWERS of Llangynhafal have found themselves royally entertained on the goals front this season.

The 20 Summer League matches involving Martin Dyer’s side in 2011 have yielded an unbelievable 134 goals - and the pattern continued as their home encounter with Llanrhaeadr was marked by eight goals.

In fairness, things were closer than the final 6-2 scoreline suggests.

Llangynhafal had a superb opportunity to draw level at three-apiece in the second half when they were awarded a penalty.

However, top scorer Liam Jones saw his spot kick brilliantly saved by Llanrhaeadr number one Kevin Evans - and within a couple of minutes the visitors broke up the other end of the pitch to stretch their lead to 4-2.

Despite the final outcome, Llangynhafal boss Martin Dyer enjoyed his night.

“It was a good game, that was end to end stuff,” he said.

“Nobody had anything on the game and everybody went out and played football.”

Llanrhaeadr had the better of the first half and they were able to take a two-goal lead.

They took the lead after a quarter-of-an-hour when Ian Evans set up youngster Osian Davies for his second goal of the summer.

One became two soon after as some good work from Iwan Davies, Ian Evans and Sion Davies presented Gethin Lloyd with the chance to chip the ball home.

However, Llangynhafal hit back just before the break as Liam Jones maintained his fine scoring run.

Llanrhaeadr regained their two-goal lead early in the second period when Lloyd set up centre back Chris Williams to net his ninth goal of a profitable campaign, but back came the home side courtesy of Liam Jones’ 21st goal of a sparkling summer.

Then came the crucial penalty award, but Jones was denied a deserved hat-trick when Kevin Evans made a stunning stop.

Almost immediately, Sion Davies crossed the ball into the box at the other end of the pitch, where Ian Evans headed it across for Gethin Lloyd to score his second of the night.

That goal was to prove the most important one of the evening and Llangynhafal were forced to push forward.

Llanrhaeadr took advantage of this extra space to bag a further couple of goals late on.

Osian Davies and Lloyd set up Ian Evans to make it 5-2 to the away side, while Evans was able to double-up before the full time whistle when he capitalised on further good work from Lloyd and Iwan Davies.

Kevin Evans, Chris Williams and Iwan Davies proved to be Llanrhaeadr’s leading lights.

Dyer added: “It’s been a tough season, but it’s been enjoyable with the young lads working hard and they have come on.”
