JESS Williams marked the 2011 series with her full international debut at the Ladies Home Internationals, held in Llandrindod Wells.

The Welsh junior international stepped up to the full squad and joined Mid Walians Kathy Pearce, Isabel Jones, Caroline Taylor, Caroline Jones and Wendy Price in representing Wales.

Team manager Hazel Wilson of Berriew described her delight as Williams stepped up from reserve to help Wales to a top three placing.

“It is great for Jess who has worked hard to break into the senior side and she is the latest Mid Wales bowler to get a full international cap,” said Wilson.

Wales opened the series with a 142-97 shot victory over Ireland.

However hopes of gold were dashed as Wales lost 140-95 to old rivals England, before crashing 132-94 to eventual champions Scotland.

However Wales ended the series on a high with a thumping 142-100 shot win over Jersey to seal third in the overall standings.

“Obviously it would have been nice to end higher but on the day Scotland and England played the better bowls and at least we finished on a high note.”

Wilson added: “I would like to thank all the Welsh fans who came out to cheer us on despite the rain.”
