A GROUP will be cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End in just 10 days, in memory of a Llanfair Waterdine woman who sadly died of cancer last year.
The group of eight 17 to 20 year olds are all family and friends of Paddy Brick, who was just 46-years old when she died.
They wanted to create something positive out of something so devastating, and aim to raise money for a variety of charities of Paddy’s choice in order to help with the care of those with terminal cancer and their families and to help with the search for a cure.
In March 2010, Paddy was diagnosed with cancer.
After initially fighting off the disease, it sadly became terminal. Paddy passed away on the September 4, last year.
Of the eight taking on the 800 mile cycle from June 28 are her two sons, 20-year old Toby and 17-year old Freddy, both who live in Ludlow.
Toby, who now studies chemical engineering at Newcastle University said: “My Mum is my inspiration; she gave everything in her personality to the family and me, as she did to all that she knew.
“To lose Mum so long before she was done with her life will never be justified or fair in anyone’s mind, although her care and love will be cherished and hopefully continued through friends and family.
“Mum’s work for charity has been relentless in recent years, whether its completing fun runs or being a huge part in organising the fund raisers for local events, mum was very charitable and all about helping others until the end.
“Now I feel is our time to step up.
“I know if mum hadn’t been taken from us she would have loved to be a part of this and that’s why I am so keen on getting it done and raising as much money as possible for such a good cause.”
Freddy added: “I want to do this for my mum, although she only had the chance of a short life compared to what she deserved, she through everything into it and know for a fact this would had been just the sort of challenge she would have loved to get her teeth into.
“She was an inspiration to everyone she knew and will live long into everyone’s memory, and that my incentive to complete this great achievement for myself but more importantly for my one of a kind mum.”
