CRAIG y Don Bowls Club members braved the rain for the final rounds of the club’s Triples Competition.

The trio of Alan Noden, Scott Garner and Arthur Sylvester took the title, beating Linda Mountford, John Monks and David Riley.

A week earlier, Linda Mountford beat Joyce Burslem to win the Doris Lee Goblet competition.

The latest round of the Collister & Clover Welsh Counties Bowling League saw a father and son battle it out as Colwyn Bay Legion hosted Rhos Park.

The Legion’s Geraint Jones took on son, Daniel, and after see-saw battle dad just carried the day 21-19.

Some other great match ups had county players Nick Hughes from the Legion take on Steve Lawley, taking the spoils with a comfortable 21-12 win, whilst CBL captain Terry Lea had too much for Mark Whiteley with a 21-14 win.

Ivor Jones of Rhos Park showed some sparkling form to dismissing Mark Lawton 21-1 in just 13 ends, and the away side had more winners with Andy Bray taking care of John Crowl 21-15 and Mark Billington wiping aside Anthony Harper 21-16.

A close-fought contest between the Legion’s Steve Barron and Rhos’ Mike Whalley saw some end to end bowls, with Barron taking advantage of some home-green knowledge to claim a 21-14 win.

The night was topped off by the Legion’s top averages player Chris Slater making short work of Glyn Jones 21-10, with the home team pinching the contest 7-3, securing the aggregate by just five chalks.

Sunny Rhyl are meanwhile riding high at the top of the lLeague after crushing Wrexham area opponents Cunliffe 8-2 at their borrowed 'home' at Abergele.

Skipper Dave Trickett led from the front with a resounding best-of-the-day 21-7 victory to help earn the seasiders a decisive 154-121 aggregate advantage and send them soaring back to pole position for the first time since May 4.

Resuming where they left off after toppling local rivals St Asaph 7-3 at Elwy Park the previous week, Rhyl piled up the points as Neale Charlton 21-10, Berwyn Williams 21-11, Jason Jones 21-15, Kris Fearnley 21-16 and Paul Wellburn 21-20 secured their bumper tally to lift them one point in front of defending champions Esclusham.

St Asaph also ran up an emphatic 8-2 win as they bounced back strongly at Llanfairpwll in a 123-153 aggregate split. Lewis Scott 21-7, Scott Parry 21-12 and Robert Pierce 21-13 headed Saints honours board to hoist them two places higher up the table.
