THE 31st Man versus Horse race saw four legs victor over two for the fourth year on the trot.
The unique event, which is held annually in the ever-quirky Llanwrtyd Wells has only been won my a human on two occasions, in 2004 and 2007, but this year saw the equines on top once again.
The race took place despite heavy showers on Saturday, and Betty Gordon, riding Next in Line Grangeway, crossed the finishing line in 2:08:37hrs, just 17 minutes quicker than the first two-legged runner Charlie Pearson.
The first woman home was Aberystwyth woman Jenny Horne, who finished on 2:46:41hrs.
The Man versus Horse Marathon began in June 1980 following a chat over a pint in the Neuadd Arms Hotel.
The then landlord, Gordon Green overheard two men discussing the relative merits of men and horses.
The enterprising Gordon, never one to miss an opportunity to promote Llanwrtyd Wells and improve business at his hotel, decided to put it to the test.
And so began Green Events and its first, longest standing and now internationally acclaimed event.
This year saw a great turnout with over 300 solo runners, 111 relay team and 50 equines registering for the event, some of which registered on the morning despite the wet weather.
Watching competitors trudge through 22 miles of wet farm tracks, open moorland, footpaths and tarmac, spectators flocked to the Radnorshire town to watch man challenge equine.
Organiser, Tony Egan said that despite the heavy showers, he had spoken to many of the competitors who have told him how much they had enjoyed the extra challenge.
Prizes were presented by Alan Hope of the Monster Raving Looney Party, with the winner receiving a cup and 1,000 guineas as a prize, although in 2004 when Huw Lobb became the first human to win the race he received £25,000.
