A CHAMPION first half performance from Cefn proved far too hot for Llanrhaeadr to handle.

Steve Hicklin’s side are well in the mix to retain the Summer League title they won 12 months ago and five first half goals against Llan certainly did no harm to their case.

The hosts came racing out of the blocks and they were four goals to the good inside the opening half-an-hour. Top goal-grabber Martin King had Cefn in front, before Dewi Jones managed to find the target to double his side’s lead.

Further strikes from talented youngster Gwion Owen and King - his 20th of a profitable campaign - effectively sealed Cefn’s 11th victory of 2011.

A Dilwyn Roberts own goal did offer Llanrhaeadr a brief flicker of hope of achieving a memorable comeback, but it was not to be and Cefn completed the first half scoring as Ali Parsonage’s fine hooked goal made it five.

At that stage, it appeared to be a case of how many goals Cefn would score on the night, but Llanrhaeadr improved after the interval.

“I think the message at half-time was to go out, get a bit of pride and win the second half,” said Llanrhaeadr’s Bryn Evans.

They achieved that target courtesy of Chris Williams’ 70th minute penalty, which was awarded after Sion Davies was fouled in the box.

It was by no means all one-way traffic in the second period, though, as Owain Roberts hit the post for Cefn and Llan number one Rhys Roberts was forced to make a number of fine stops.

Sion Davies did well for Llanrhaeadr during the second 45 minutes when he was moved up to a striking position, while 14-year-old Rhys Hughes gave his all for the visitors’ cause throughout the game.
