CLAWDDNEWYDD 2
LLANRHAEADR 3
DAFYDD Davies could not have picked a better time to score his first Llanrhaeadr goal of the season.
It appeared as if Llan would have to settle for a point from their visit to Clawddnewydd after the sides shared four goals during the opening 80 minutes, but Davies found the target to keep Llanrhaeadr’s championship hopes alive.
Clawddnewydd have missed goal threat Jordan MacCarter for much of the season, but he was on the field for the Tuesday match and he made up for lost time by opening the scoring after a quarter-of-an-hour.
Llanrhaeadr, who were grateful for a number of important saves from keeper Rhys Roberts, managed to haul themselves level through Ian Evans and it was Llan who bagged the next goal to take the lead for the first time on the hour.
In his first senior game, Iwan Davies took a quick throw-in to release his brother Sion Davies, who finished things off with a great curling shot.
However, Clawddnewydd weren’t down for long and David MacCarter struck to draw them level.
It remained at 2-2 until 10 minutes from time, when Llanrhaeadr secured the all-important goal that keeps them in the title picture through Dafydd Davies.
For Llan, Chris Williams and Huw Morris were in fine form at the back, while youngsters Iwan Davies, Osian Davies and Rhys Hughes gave excellent displays.
