THE day of the pylon protest is finally here and thousands of Powys residents are set to descend on Cardiff Bay today (May 24) to register their opinions in front of the Senedd.
Up to 1,500 people are expected to attend the protest, which is rallying against proposals to build 47-metre high pylons and a 20-acre electricity substation (or 'hub') in the Montgomeryshire countryside.
It is set to start at 11.30am, with a speech from Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies at midday.
Two potential sites for the 'hub' have been named as Abermule and Cefn Coch, which has seen residents and neighbours put up banners and posters rejecting the plans.
County Times chief reporter Richard Jones joined three walkers last Thursday and has walked all the way to Cardiff from Welshpool, in preparation for today's protest.

Editor Nick Knight and senior reporter Dominic Robertson, along with County Times photographer Phil Blagg will be covering the protest in Cardiff.
The National Grid is urging people to take part in the public consultation process which has been extended until June 20.
