Second Machynlleth bank robbery suspect in custody

POLICE have arrested a second man in connection with the theft of a quantity of cash, from a guard working for a private security firm, at the entrance to Barclays Bank in Machynlleth shortly before 11.45am on Thursday.

Following joint enquiries with West Midlands Police, Dyfed Powys Police can confirm that a 26-year-old man from the Birmingham area has been arrested on suspicion of committing robbery and is currently in police custody.

The first man arrested - a 24-year-old man from the Birmingham area who was charged and appeared in Brecon Magistrates Court on May 21 - was remanded to custody to reappear on May 27. 

Police continue their hunt for one other suspect, a white man, in his 20s.

 "We still have officers searching for the third man." said Detective Chief Inspector Shane Williams.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Newtown police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Dyfed-Powys Police would like to thank members of the Machynlleth, Newtown and Welshpool community for their help in the hunt for the robbers and would like reassure the public that offences of this nature are extremely rare in this area.
