Abergele 14 Newtown 16

MATTHEW Jones kicked two second-half penalties as Newtown survived an Abergele comeback bid, to claim victory.

Newtown started the match brightly and led thanks to a solitary try from wing Richard Andrew, which was converted by centre Jones.

Jones also kicked a first-half penalty as Newtown opened a 10 point interval lead.
However Abergele were quick off the mark in the second-half and hit back with a try from prop Darren Peters, which full-back Gareth Evans converted

Evans set-up wing Chris Marsh to power over for a second try, with Evans converting as Abergele took the lead.

Newtown were not to be denied and Jones successfully navigated two penalties over the posts to secure victory.

Newtown coach Derek Murray said: “Abergele came back well so full credit to the lads for getting their heads down for a good win.”
