A MAJOR rescue operation is in place after reports that a car carrying up to five people plunged into a reservoir near Llanidloes.

It is thought that one female has been found alive but there are fears for the other four in the car.

There is an RAF helicopter, two air ambulance helicopters, police, fire crews and ambulance crews on the scene at the Llyn Clywedog reservoir.

Reports also suggest that the car is said to be in up to 40m of water and police divers have arrived on the scene and are in the water.

The accident is believed to have happened on the B4518 near Staylittle which is closed at its junctions with the B4569 and the A470.
