AN OFFICIAL bid for Wrexham’s historic Racecourse Ground to host matches in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup has been launched.

And the campaign has won the full backing of hotelier and chair of the town’s chamber of trade Stephanie Booth, who has been in talks to buy Wrexham FC.

She said: “I am giving this my total backing and will do anything I can to help.

“This will put Wrexham on the map and bring in major economic benefits.

“It will definitely bring more people into the town and those people will spend their money here.

“The Racecourse, the Crusaders and Wrexham FC need all the help they can get at the moment.”

The Rugby Football League is currently searching for likely venues for the prestigious event, which involves 14 nations, and will be televised in more than 120 countries across the globe.

And Wrexham Council has teamed up with Super League’s only Welsh side, Crusaders RL, who are based at the Racecourse, to put together a challenge to become one of the hosts.

The campaign will run under the banner ‘Wrexham 2013 – Bringing Rugby League to Life’.

The outcome of the bid will be announced in the autumn, and if it is successful, Wrexham would not only provide the venue for key group games in the tournament but would also provide a base for team training camps.

The Racecourse is the world’s oldest international stadium and hosted a group match between Wales and the Cook Islands in the 2000 Rugby League World Cup.

Crusaders chief executive Rod Findlay said: ”The stadium has a proud history of hosting international sporting events, going way back to 1877, and we would love the 2013 Rugby League World Cup to be part of that legacy.

“There are thousands and thousands of people watching rugby league here in North Wales who weren’t watching two or three years ago and this event will help us attract thousands more.”

The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Jim Kelly, said: “In recent years, Wrexham has hosted international football, rugby union, and rugby league matches, the Hockey
European Cup and the town will host the 2011 National Eisteddfod this summer.

“We believe that bringing the 2013 Rugby League World Cup will leave a lasting legacy.”

Wrexham resident Allen Jones, 51, who has been involved in rugby league as both an amateur coach and player for over 20 years, said:

“More and more people are looking to get involved in the game, whether it is playing or coaching. Hosting a Rugby League World Cup game will see those numbers increase.”

Much needed development at The Kop end is essential if this is to become reality!

Let's see Mr Moss fulfil his obligation in building the new Kop Stand. He was given planning permission for the student flats on this basis.

Any one who thinks that the WORLD CUP will be hosted in Wrexham, are living in narnia period.

Why can`t the people of Wrexham see what Stephanie Booth is up to. She/he is only doing this to line her/his owe business pocket. I totally don’t trust her/him. You will all be sorry backing her/him. Just ask her /his hotel staff how they get treated. They are treated like scum.

Wrexhamatc you said there is a leaked email that Stephanie had sent saying she would not want football at the ground if she / he got the ground....PLEASE COPY AND PASTE IT ON HERE AND HER FACEBOOK PAGE. we need to know the truth.

RYANDEAN216, due to threats of legal action,I can't as yet post the contents on here or elsewhere, but they have already been viewed by many people,so the cat truly is out of the bag. And there are more 'revelations' to come. Do not trust this woman!

Dessy, not at all. The Rugby Leagure are anxious to expand the sport in as many UK markets as possible. If the ground is up to scratch by then, they would definitely want to have some games played in Wrexham.

Whilst I'd trust St. Booth as far as I could throw her, I'm sorry wrexhamafc, but you can't just make statements like that and not back them up.

OH YES WE CAN !!! ....politicians do it ....bankers do it.....business does it....Councillors and Councils do it.....Sir Fergie of Man Utd does it and he's the only who gets charged !!!

Roland Cleth, Although I have a copy of said email,I cannot post it. If you want verification of the fact that it contained information pertaining to the fotball club NOT being part of the deal, simply go to http://www.redpassion.co.uk and ask if anyone has seen it,and you'll get the response you require. Booth (and the Laeder) will not tollerate the truth coming out.

Thanks for posting the link, but, to be honest, I can't see anything controvercial in it. It looks just like the normal traffic between parties negotiating a commercial transaction. What am I missing?

  16. Posted by: Roland Cleth at 09:24 on 07 April 2011 Report

OK, but none of that can be deduced from that email. On what basis do the football club occupy the ground at present? My recollection is that it was in separate ownership - but that was some years ago.

  17. Posted by: wrexhamafc at 16:02 on 07 April 2011 Report

As you can see, my posts are being removed due to the truth being told. Roland, at the moment, tWrexham FC OWN the Rcaecourse, under Booths plans, they will become tenants. Guess this will disappear now too. Doesn't really matter, the information is now out amongst all concerned parties and people,we will not be robbed of our club. And because you have a following of stupid children on Facebook doesn't count for a thing Booth, real people have seen right through you.
