LAST weekend was a very up and down one! Firstly we managed to go to Columbus Crew without five international players and still gain a point with a hard fought draw.
All credit to the boys who defended excellently for the New York Red Bulls and nearly won it in the end, as their keeper produced a fantastic stop in injury time.
Probably wouldn’t have been fair though as the points shared was about right.
Having said that the journey back was a nightmare for me! Full of bumps and turbulence didn't make it very comfortable.
I’m not the best of flyers anyway and that’s one of the reasons why, I suppose being on a 80-seater plane doesn’t help either!
I suppose I must talk about the international game played and the disappointment surround the whole of Welsh football.
Firstly I know that the build up had been very positive and bright and the boys really believed they could get a result. Sadly the loss of Gareth Bale did not help matters but that is no excuse.
Football all over the world is a simple game, 11 v 11 on one day and the players who perform usually win the game. A simple and old cliche but never so true as on Saturday.
England from the first minute dominated Wales and pressed them high up the field, causing error after error as they scored two quick goals. Some might say that true goalscorers are the difference, but lets be honest on this occasion. We were outplayed!
As a Welshman that really hurts losing to the English, but we must look forward now. We must improve as a team and be able to adapt if the opposition stops us playing the way we want to.
Gary will be working very hard over the next few months to get these things right and I’m sure come the next match at Wembley against England, we’ll see a different Wales team.
As a smaller nation we must all stick together and move forward, but also remember how much this loss hurt! The Welsh are proud, our pride is dented but we will bounce back, we always do!
Finally I must say happy Mothers’ Day to my mum Denise and all those mums out there. I know my kids know how lucky they are to have a loving mum. Enjoy your day x.
