A FORMER Welshpool High School pupil who lost her aunt to breast cancer two-years-ago is to walk the Great Wall of China to raise money for a charity whose mission it is to beat the illness.

30-year-old Olivia Groves, who now works for Shropshire County Council, will undertake the vigorous 2,500km trek on October 15, and hopes to raise £3,250 for Breast Cancer Care.

Olivia has been inspired to take part in the demanding Great Wall of China expedition after she lost her aunt, Joy Groves, from Long Mountain, to breast cancer, aged just 48-years-old.

“A couple of years ago I lost my aunty to breast cancer so raising money for breast cancer charities is very close to my heart,” she said.

“In the past I have raised money in a number of different ways but this year I wanted to do something different so I decided upon the Great Wall of China challenge.”

The walk will start in Jinshanling with a trek that loops along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway. On completion Olivia will return to Beijing to explore some of the many attractions of China’s capital city such as the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Lama Temple.

Olivia and her friends and family will raise the required sponsorship through parties, raffles and auctions but anyone wishing to sponsor her can also do so by visiting her justgiving website – www.justgiving.com/Olivia-Groves.
