WORK is under way on a new £1m link road in Llandrindod Wells to improve access to the town's industrial areas and ease traffic problems.
The work on Powys County Council's new Ddole Road Link Road, connecting Waterloo Road and Brookland Road, is expected to take approximately five months to complete.

This long awaited new road scheme will finally provide the missing link between t
he two areas first envisaged in the county's structure plans as long ago as the late 1980s.

It will allow HGVs to access the industrial premises in Waterloo Road and the town centre from the A483 trunk road without using a difficult trunk road junction over a railway crossing or travelling through residential areas.

Councillor Geraint Hopkins, Board Member for Construction and Municipal Services, said: "This new road, which is jointly funded with a major contribution from Tesco, will play a vital role in enabling Tesco's development, as well as supporting Setton and Durwards new factory.

"It will also help the council in regenerating part of Llandrindod, with a guarantee of new jobs and a safeguard to existing businesses."

The Mayor of Llandrindod, Derek Law claims the project is "long overdue".

"The actual route has been there a very long time and this project has been long overdue.

"With it being away from the main trunk road it will make life easier for local residents."

The new road will complement other regeneration works being undertaken elsewhere in the town that were secured by the council with grant funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.

Access to existing premises in Waterloo Road will be maintained at all times and disruption will be kept to a minimum during the work. Pedestrian access through the construction site will be restricted for safety.

The main highway contractor is Abergavenny based Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd who will operate a public contact number during work:
