COMMUNITY councillors in the Llandrindod Wells area will stand 'shoulder to shoulder' with the workers at threatened firm, Setten and Durward.
The stationary company, which produces ringbinders and other items under names such as IXL, was placed in the hands of administrators two weeks ago, putting more than 150 jobs at risk.

But at a joint meeting of representatives of Disserth and Tre
coed, Llanyre and Newbridge and Llandrindod Community Councils, members said they were shocked at the news.

A statement issued by Cllr Derek Law on behalf of the groups, said: "We are shocked and dismayed by the announcement that Setten and Durward has gone into administration, further eroding the manufacturing base in the local economy.

"We stand shoulder to shoulder with Setten's workers and their families and call on the administrators, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Powys County Council and the National Assembly of Wales to do all in their power to ensure that manufacturing employment continues with a new owner.

"The hard working employees deserve nothing less than the full support of everyone."

Last week it was revealed that Tesco's plans to build a supermarket on the site currently occupied by Setten and Durward would not be affected by the news.

Felix Gummer, Tesco's corporate affairs manager for Wales, said: "The news won't affect us as we already have an unconditional contract for the site."
