COLLEGE students and those looking for a career change are being invited to find out about the wide range of careers open to them in the NHS at an event in Llandrindod Wells.
The event, which is taking place on Tuesday, March 4, at the Media Resource Centre is being organised by Powys Teaching Local Health Board in partnership with the Institute of Rural Health and Careers Wales, as part of a Wales-wide week of activities
orchestrated by the National Leadership and Innovation Agency for Healthcare (NLIAH).

The event, which runs between 9.30am and 2.30pm, is aimed at students from year nine upwards from schools and colleges in Powys and to adults of all ages.

They will be able to take part in hands on activities, view the displays, and both clinical and non clinical staff will be on hand to answer any questions they might have about a successful career.

NLIAH, which plays a strategic role supporting NHS Wales to deliver world class healthcare through the development of clinical and non-clinical staff at every level, says people have a very narrow view about jobs in the service.

Stephen Griffiths, joint interim director of workforce development of NLIAH, said: "Everyone thinks the NHS employs only doctors and nurses, but in fact there is a huge range of exciting careers available in Wales' largest employer.

"The NHS needs everyone from chefs, scientists and therapists, to electricians and accountants – and many more roles besides.

"We are very grateful to the LHB for its work in putting on this event, which I know will showcase these many opportunities. I'm sure those who take part in them will enjoy and benefit from them greatly."

Janet Morgan, student placement co-ordinator of Powys Teaching Local Health Board, said the event would be entertaining as well as informative.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming people. We have put together an exciting day, and I'm sure they will have fun as well as – who knows – taking the first steps of their new career," she said.
