A LLANDRINDOD Wells butcher struck gold at a Welsh meat ceremony, winning two awards for high quality products.
J Williams and Son won two gold awards for their beef burger and home-cured bacon product entries at the ceremony, which was organised by Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Wales.

They also took home five silver and five bronze awards.

Bruce Willi
ams said: "We are very pleased with our awards. They are bound to be good for business. It is all local stuff that goes into our burgers.

The butcher uses both lamb and pedigree Welsh Black beef from their own farm in their range of meat products.

Graham Titchener, HCC's marketing executive, said: "A creative and innovative range of products were showcased at the awards with a high standard of entries in every category.

"Wales' independent butchers are continually developing their products with the consumer in mind and these awards are highly regarded within the industry."

A record 359 independent butcher product entries battled against each other in competition for the 12 champion categories presented at the ceremony, which was held at the Towers Hotel, Swansea, last week.

Top judges were recruited from all over the UK to sample the speciality sausages, pies, burgers, ready meals and home-cured bacon and gammon entered.

The categories produced a good range of inventive products such as pork, prune and Cognac sausages and Chilli Willi Beef, as well as traditional favourites such as faggots and peas.

Sadly the shop missed out on being named an overall category winner, thus missing out on a cup for display in the shop window.
