A CANCER support group has been given a grant of almost £170,000.
The Bracken Trust, based in Llandrindod Wells, supports people with cancer and other long-term illnesses and their families.

It has been awarded £168,875 by the Big Lottery Fund to create support networks and new services for patients and carers.

Through partnership working, the project will extend the range of services offered by the Bracken Trust and strengthen the sustainability of the organisation.

A trust spokesman said: "The vision of the trust is of a holistic approach to cancer, uniting orthodox medical care and complementary therapies with self-help techniques and generally making cancer less scary.

"The Bracken Trust is based in Llandrindod Wells and serves around a 30-mile radius. The trust is now open every week day from 9.30am to 5pm, but presently no therapies are offered on a Monday."

The grant comes as part of almost £3million of funding handed out by the BLF in the latest round of grant giving.

Big Lottery Fund Wales committee member and chair of the people and places committee, Janet Reed, said: "Programmes like People and Places are making a difference to the lives of so many people in communities across Wales.

"People and Places delivers on our promise to use Lottery funding to regenerate and revitalise communities, tackle disadvantage head on and leave a lasting legacy.

"I'm sure these awards will have a positive impact on the lives of many people in the community and will continue to do so for years to come."
