THE following musical events are being held in the area over the coming seven days.
Friday, September 26

ANARCHY IN THE UKULELE, featuring the fabulous Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at Theatr Brycheiniog, BRECON.

FIGHT THE BEAR, Bishops Castle rock band at the White Horse Inn, CLUN.

WINFORTON WIND CLARINET QUARTET, pre
forming at St. Mary's Church, KINNERTON, with proceeds to Church funds.

EARLY MUSIC AT DISCOED, opening of annual weekend with "The French Ambassadors" readings and music from the courts of Henry VIII and Francis I to animate Holbein's masterpieces, at St. Andrew's Church, PRESTEIGNE.

Continues with two day vocal and instrumental workshop on the Vesperae Longiores of Heinrich Biber at Upper House and St. Michael's Church, DISCOED on Saturday and Sunday; and a performance of Bach's Three Sonatas for Viola da Gamba at Upper House on Saturday evening September 27.

1960s PARTY NITE, with Terry Webster former frontman to the Rockin Berries and the voice behind many of the Jive Bunny recordings; with Dave Chevron, Shelly Gee and The Chevrons duo, at WELSHPOOL Town Hall.,

Saturday, September 27

PELOTON, live music at the Three Tuns, BISHOPS CASTLE.

COR MERCHED MALDWYN, Montgomeryshire Ladies Choir begin autumn season with concert at St, Edward's Church, KNIGHTON, in aid of Church Restoration Fund.

CANTORION COLIN JONES, male voice choir performing at Banw Community Centre, LLANGADFAN. Tickets cost £8 and can be purchased by calling 01938 820594.

VELVET DUKES, local band who launched their debut CD this year, play live at the Red Lion, LLANIDLOES.

NEWTOWN SILVER BAND, launch their new CD "Adventures in Brass" with concert at All Saints Church, NEWTOWN supported by Llanllwhaiarn and Newtown Church Choir.

THE RING OF FIRE: Europe's leading Johnny Cash tribute band at Theatr Hafren, NEWTOWN.

JACKFIELD ELCOCK BRASS BAND, 10 piece section of the UK championship winners in concert at PONTROBERT Village Hall.

FRIDAY FEELING, live at the Horseshoe Inn, RATLINGHOPE.

PORTHYWAEW SILVER BAND, concert in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal at WATTLESBOROUGH Village Hall near Middletown.

Sunday, September 28

BBC NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF WALES, featuring violinist Lesley Hatfield with Mozart and Vaughan Williams classics in afternoon concert at Theatr Hafren, NEWTOWN.

Monday, September 29

UGANDAN CHILDREN'S CHOIR, superb ensemble return to the area to fund raise for the village in Southern Uganda that the charity A.F.R.I.C.A. Association for Reaching and Instructing Children in Africa, run trying to build a new school, hospital and children's home, with concerts at Hafren Junior School Hall, NEWTOWN, at 7pm tonight; at St. Mary's Church, LLAN, Llanbrynmair, at 7.30pm on Tuesday Septembner 30; at CARNO Community Centre at 7pm on Wednesday October 1; and at LLANIDLOES Primary School Hall at 7pm on Thursday October 2.

African crafts will be on sale. The choir are also doing workshops in Llanidloes High School and Primary Schools, Ladywell Green infant and Hafren Junior school, Cedewain and Trefeglwys schools.

FFONIC, community world music band meets on Monday evenings at NEWTOWN, playing traditional and new music. Celebrating their eighth anniversary this autumn by raising money for the charity Water Aid, with a ceilidh at LLANDINAM Village Halll on Saturday October 18.

OPEN MIC NIGHT, new singers and acoustic music welcome at The Horseshoe Inn, RATLINGHOPE.

Tuesday, September 30

JAM SESSION, with all musicians welcome every Tuesday from 9pm at the Black Boy Hotel, NEWTOWN.

BORDER FOLK COMMUNITY NIGHTS, musicians and singers welcome at weekly sessions from 9pm at The Grapes, NEWTOWN.

RHAYADER JAM, session at The Cornhill Inn every Tuesday from 8pm for musicians and performers. Call the pub first on 01597 810029.

TRAVIS, return of the newly revitalised band with their new album 'Ode to J Smith', at WOLVERHAMPTON Wulfrun Hall.

Wednesday, October 1

FOLK NIGHT, regular local gathering on the first Wednesday of the month at The Laughing Dog, HOWEY.

LIVE JAZZ, informal music sessions with local musicians at the Dragon Hotel, MONTGOMERY, from 9pm on Wednesdays.

TONY SKEGGS, regular at the Horseshoe Inn, RATLINGHOPE.

WITH A SMILE & A SONG, afternoon variety show at SHREWSBURY Music Hall.
