THE following musical events are being held in the area over the coming seven days.
Friday, October 17

THE STRANGLERS, following the release of their "FortyTwoForty The Great Hits" album the hitmaking punk heroes hit the road with a Greatest Hits Tour with dates including ABERYSTWYTH Arts Centre tonight.

MUGENKYO TAIKO DRUMM
ERS, return with new pieces and arrangements at Wyeside Arts Centre, BUILTH WELLS.

OMNIUM, Breton/Irish music at the Workhouse, LLANFYLLIN.

ELLIOT MINOR, play their blend of emo, pop-punk and indie at SHREWSBURY Buttermarket.

Saturday, October 18

KNIGHTON TOWN SILVER BAND, Autumn Concert with Knighton Primary School Choir and the Training Band, at KNIGHTON Community Centre.

FFONIC, local community band celebrate their eighth anniversary with dance night at LLANDINAM Village Hall as part of The Big National Ceilidh where thousands of people all over the country simultaneously dance to the music of live bands.

Proceeds from all the events will be given to the WaterAid charity and at 10pm all bands will be playing the tune "Jamie Allen"and as many people as possible will be dancing The Circassian Circle. The idea was conceived by musicians David and Joey Oliver of Northumberland.

DESFORD COLLIERY BAND, the 208 Midlands Region Champions who starred in their own hit TV show "The Real Brassed Off", play live at Theatr Hafren, NEWTOWN.

GUITAR SHOW, at PRESTEIGNE Assembly Rooms today and Sunday October 19 including live demonstrations and a chance to see a huge range of guitars.

DAVE REA & ONE NIGHT STAND, at the Horseshoe Inn, RATLINGHJOPE.

Sunday, October 19

LISA KNAPP, singer whose "Wild and Undaunted" was 2007 Mojo Folk Album of the Year, plays live at Wyeside Arts Centre, BUILTH WELLS.

DYAD PERCUSSION DUO, Manchester pair start the new KNIGHTON Concert Society season at the refurbished St. Edward's Church at 3pm.

Toby Kearney, the 2006 Percussion Finalist of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and now at the Royal Northern College of Music, has teamed up with Dan Jones with great success.

This year they perform new works by Dave Onac, Duncan Ward, Matt Sergeant and Avner Hanani. Their repertoire spans three centuries and includes music by the hugely popular Japanese composers Minoru Miki and Keiko Abe, alongside music by the marimba virtuoso Eric Sammut and music from America by Wayne Siegel, Steve Reich and Chick Corea. There will be something in this concert everyone to enjoy.

Children and students have free entry to all the Society concerts which continue on Remembrance Sunday woth president, Graham Trew, baritone, with Igor Kennaway, piano, and friends performing a sequence of words and music entitled "None That Go Return Again", and in the new year there is a return visit from pianist Peter Rossiter; a wind ensemble and the Hart Piano Trio.

ETRAN FINATAWA, spellbinding songs with his band mixing two groups of desert nomads with their CD "Desert Crossroads" and playing live on UK tour tonight at LUDLOW Assembly Rooms.

Monday, October 21

KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES, Cardiff pop-rock band at the WOLVERHAMPTON Wulfrun Hall.

Tuesday, October 22

JAM SESSION, with all musicians welcome every Tuesday from 9pm at the Black Boy Hotel, NEWTOWN.

BORDER FOLK COMMUNITY NIGHTS, musicians and singers welcome at weekly sessions from 9pm at The Grapes, NEWTOWN.

RHAYADER JAM, session at The Cornhill Inn every Tuesday from 8pm for performers of all types. Check with the pub first on 01597 810029.

THE HOOSIERS, Indie quirksters invite fancy dress on the theme of What you wanted to be when you're a grown-up for tonight's gig at WOLVERHAMPTON Civic Hall.

Wednesday, October 22

LIVE JAZZ, informal music sessions with local musicians at the Dragon Hotel, MONTGOMERY, from 9pm on Wednesdays.

TONY SKEGGS, regular at the Horseshoe Inn, RATLINGHOPE.

SETH LAKEMAN, West country singer songwriter on his biggest tour yet, with new album 'Poor Man's Heaven', playing at WOLVERHAMPTON Wulfrun Hall.

Thursday, October 23

HEDGEHOPPER, singer and guitarist plays music from the 1950s onwards plus country and western at MIDDLETOWN Village Hall from 1pm to 2pm with free admission and to help raise funds for the Healthy Living Project.
