* RE-ANIMATE, exhibition of contemporary animation by 39 artists from across the UK at the Oriel Davies Gallery, NEWTOWN together with prize winners in the competition launched last December reflecting animation at its most diverse and fascinating.
Winner of the Whittingham Riddell £1,000 first prize is Pia Borg, artist film maker based in London. Student £500 prize winner is Sibyl Montague, a London based student. Both also get chance for solo exhibitions in summer 2011.
Visitors have till August 6 to choose their favourite for the People’s Choice Prize.

The Fringe Festival opens on Thursday, August 5, and continues on 6, 7 and 8. The guide lists 195 performances in over 30 venues in and around Brecon, Llangorse and Hay including some 40 gigs with bands including The Big Fibbers from London, The Mists of Time from France, She Tasted Good from Spain, and The Amigos, Funhouse, The Spartans, and The Root Doctors.

It’s the second year that the Jazz Festival has been run by the Hay Festival and those appearing tonight will include the Neil Cowley Trio, Pee Wee Ellis Funk Ensemble; BBC Jazz Award winners Get The Blessing, from Bristol; American saxophonist Scott Hamilton with Rossano Sportiello, Dave Green, and Steve Brown Quartet; and a tribute to British tenor sax legend Tubby Hayes.
