* IFOR CERI FESTIVAL, Kerry Local History Group organised event to celebrate Ifor Ceri, the name adopted by the Rev John Jenkins of Kerry, who collected airs, ballads and plygain hymns at the start of the 19th century. The Group has an exhibition in KERRY Church open until June 27.
Next Thursday June 24 at Kerry Village Hall at 7.30pm, the distinguished art historian Peter Lord will speak on the artisan Welsh painter Hugh Hughes, who produced an important series of portraits at the Moat at the behest of Ifor Ceri,
Huw Williams, a national clog dancing champion and member of the band Crasdant will be running traditional music workshops at Brynllywarch and St Michael’s schools in Kerry next Friday, June 18.
Dr Ffion Mair Jones of the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, will be speaking on Ifor Ceri and the Kerry literary circle, and their contribution to Welsh culture, earlier on the day of Saturday, June 26, at 2.30pm in Kerry Village Hall; and in the evening there will be a concert in Kerry Church featuring the inspirational Welsh folk band Crasdant with a themed programme specifically researched for the festival. * WOOL & WILLOW FESTIVAL, sixth annual event extended this year to four weeks showcasing the best of products made by local wool and willow artists and craftspeople with many products for sale at the Minerva Arts Centre, LLANIDLOES. * NEWTOWN AMATEUR DRAMATIC SOCIETY, celebrating 75 years and 41 years at the Powys Theatre, with the third of four Open Days, tonight and on Saturday June 19 from 11am to 4pm. On display will be costumes and photographic memorabilia, plus a Wartime feature relating to past chairman Reg Newman. Visitors will be able to see behind the scenes of a typical production, with free entry.
* THE MODES OF AL-IKSEER, stunning new piece of visual performance combining live art, musical spectacle and storytelling, in which artist Harminder Singh Judge examines his fascination with contemporary pop culture and Hindu myth, at the Oriel Davies Gallery, NEWTOWN, at 7.30pm. * ”HOLIDAY”, exhibition by Newtown artist Lee Lewis on to June 30 at Gateway Arts Centre, SHREWSBURY.
* GREGYNOG FESTIVAL, final weekend of the classic music festival at Gregynog Hall, TREGYNON, this year celebrating Pleasure Gardens moving on to the gardens of the Renaissance, of the Elizabethan age and of Japan. Tonight The Musicians of the Globe give the world première performance of their new Elizabethan programme, All in a Garden Green, at 7.30pm, with soprano Joanne Lunn.
Saturday is Japan Day from 10am ending with star international pianist Noriko Ogawa creating a special programme of Romantic and contemporary repertoire to evoke a Japanese garden for the evening concert.
Final concert is Sunday at 3pm when the Tallis Scholars, leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music, present glorious settings of the Song of Songs by Renaissance masters including Palestrina, Vivanco and de Rore.

Saturday, June 19

Guest soloist will be bass baritone Meirion Wyn Jones, winner of the Blue Riband Competition at the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff 2008. Singing programme to suit all tastes. Bethan Rees, official accompanist of the Girls Choir will be at the piano.
