THERE aren’t many bands which would deliberately leak their music onto the internet, for the benefit of their fans, but Lacuna Coil is a band which has embraced the digital revolution.

“It’s cool to have the reaction and very positive reviews,” explained Andrea Ferro, one of two singers in the band along with Cristina Scabbia, guitarists Cristiano Migliore and Marco Biazzi, bassist Marco Coti Zelati and drummer Cristiano Mozzati.

“We’ve been away for a while so wanted to get the ball rolling before the tour, start introducing our name again.”

The internet has changed the music industry over the past 10 years, the singer said, and having control over your music can be more difficult.

“We used to do the classic promotion but we are switching to the new way.

“It’s all crazy, nobody knows what to do to sell records. We have chosen to follow the internet and not fight it. It’s evolution. The whole thing is very interesting and challenging, you have to sacrifice a bit at the beginning but maybe in a few years it will be easier to control.”

When asked whether he prefers Facebook or Twitter, Andrea admitted he’s certainly more of a Facebook user.

“I’m already in front of my computer all the time, I don’t want to be on my phone all the time too,” he laughed.

The band have recently shot the video for new single ‘Trip the Darkness’ in their ome town of Milan, with a British director.

“We’ve done lots of shows in the UK over the years and it really feels like our second home in Europe, we get a lot of good attention from the press,” Andrea said.

He also confided the band’s love of a good old fashioned greasy spoon cafe.

“I love the fried breakfasts,” he said.

Lacuna Coil famously played the Australian festival Soundwave with Nine Inch Nails, a band they grew up listening to.

“We were lucky enough to be in the touring party on the plane with them,” Andrea said. “It was great, we grew up with this band.”

New album ‘Dark Adrenaline’ will be released on January 24.
