Friday, May 13
* THREE, exhibition featuring work by installation artist Vicki Kerr from New Zealand, moving image artist, poet and musician Heather Phillipson, and photographer Michelle Sank, at ABERYSTWYTH Arts Centre gallery to May 21.
* KATHAKBOX, new show from the dynamic Sonia Sabri Dance Company, bringing together Indian Kathak dance’s grace and vigour and the rhythms and rhymes of hip hop culture, at the SpArC theatre, BISHOPS CASTLE.
* MID WALES ART CENTRE, following the official opening of the Stefan Knapp Sculpture Project and the 1921-96 Lifetime Retrospective Exhibition of the artist Stefan Knapp who would have been 90 this year, on to the end of May at the CAERSWS gallery and grounds. Works include paintings from 1940 describing his experiences in a Siberian Prisoner of War Camp, drawings, sculpture, paintings and enamels, An archive film of Pathe news clips is showing on a loop.
Open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11am to 4pm.
Submissions are being sought for the next “Young Artists” exhibition to go on show in June.
* MID WALES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, acclaimed violinist Marcia Crayford leads soloists in music by Schubert, Borodin and others at St Michael’s Church, DISCOED.

* SOPHIE BIGNALL, exhibition by local artist specialising in producing lifelike images of flora and fauna, at the Tower House Gallery, KNIGHTON, during May.
* MUSEUM OF MODERN ART WALES, new exhibitions at the MACHYNLLETH gallery comprise Ann Bridges “Halcyon Days”; the Contemporary Art Society for Wales’ Art for Wales collection; and New Work by Aneurin and Meirion Jones. All will be officially opened by David Alston this Saturday lunchtime, May 14.
* TONY SKEGGS, popular local musician at the Lowfield Inn, MARTON.
* IAN PHILLIPS, new exhibition by the artist who produces lino prints and lives near Machynlleth, on until May 25, at the CountryWorks Gallery, MONTGOMERY.
* ORIEL DAVIES GALLERY, “Placement: Ceramics Connections Wales and Scotland” exhibition, explores the narrative possibilities of ceramics through material, form, history, image and context, including works by Laura Ford, David Shrigley, Cecile Johnson Soliz, and Conor Wilson, at the NEWTOWN venue, until July 6.
Exhibition curator and ceramacist Lowri Davies is in conversation with Ingrid Murphy at 7pm next Thursday, May 19. Free but places must be booked.
* VIVI-MARI CARPELAN, the Finnish-Swedish symbolist artist from Llanidloes shows 20 intriguing handmade collages until the end of May at PH Salon and Gallery, Park Street, NEWTOWN.
* RICHARD ALSTON, choreographer’s company feature dance with music by the Russian composer Prokofiev, minimalist icon Steve Reich and modern American composer Ned Rorem, at Theatre Severn, SHREWSBURY.

Saturday, May 14
* THE RESONATORS, nine piece reggae band at ABERYSTWYTH Arts Centre.
* ANDREW LOGAN MUSEUM OF SCULPTURE, the BERRIEW gallery open free of charge for European Night of Museums, with tea and cocktails served 4 to 10pm.
* GLYN JAMES, tenor with other soloists including Welsh and English ballads, at BLEDDFA Church.
* BWRLWM Y BANNAU 2011, festival relocated to the Markets Tavern, BRECON, includes some of the biggest names on the Welsh music scene such as Colorama, Mr Phormula, Gareth Phillips, Tremolo and Paned, plus Brecon Samba kicking off Y Gig Mawr.
The festival also features beat boxing workshops with Mr Phormula; drama workshops with local multi-media company CISP; and the Welsh Scrabble competition organised by Welsh for Adults Mid Wales Centre.
