A LITTLE bird told me that a remarkable pair of storytellers Milly Jackdaw and Ailsa Mair Hughes, will be alighting in Shrewsbury on Monday, May 2.
Milly Jackdaws unique brand of interactive, performance storytelling combines humour, poetry and physical theatre to bring stories vibrantly to life.
If you caught her first performance at Theatre Severn, The Mermaid & the Selkie you will know that this is storytelling plus some.
In Stories with Wings, Brave Girls & Celtic Kings Milly teams up with Ailsa Mair Hughes a remarkable young cellist/composer/singer with a fresh, distinctive sound that adds a whole new dimension to the stories.
She draws characters and places with her music and produces an unexpected variety of sounds from her cello, seamlessly weaving a musical story throughout the spoken one. This performance brings new light to tales from ancient mythology making it accessible to people of all ages and bringing out contemporary relevance.
So take a swig of their story medicine and come learn how to fly, through the wild woods, over the mountains and seas, around a giant’s great head and even to Paris, for three stories featuring birds:
* ‘Honeyangel’ – The story of St Melangell and a hunted hare.
* ‘Branwen's Starling’' – From the 2nd branch of the Mabinogion. A refreshing and dramatic adaptation of this classic Welsh myth.
* ‘Pigeon in the Cathedral!’ – During an orchestral/choral performance in the Basilique de St Denis in Paris, a pigeon is trapped inside the cathedral.
The running time is one and a half hours and the performance is suitable for adults and children eight and over.
Stories with Wings, Brave Girls & Celtic Kings plays at The Walker Theatre, Theatre Severn at 2.30pm. There will also be a storytelling workshop at 12.30pm
