ACCLAIMED Powys singer/songwriter Kizzy Crawford appears in a collaboration between Welsh jazz pianist/composer Gwilym Simcock, and award winning chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru, this Friday, May 11, at the Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells.

Their “Birdsong / Cân yr Adar” concert is inspired by the ancient forests of Carngafallt in Powys and fuses jazz, classical and soul-folk music through a collection of spellbinding bilingual songs.

“I feel so fortunate to have been able to work on and develop such a creative and inspiring project. To work with Gwilym Simcock and the incredible talent of the Sinfonia Cymru musicians has been a wonderful experience. Birdsong-Can Yr Adar is a combination of jazz, folk and classical music with imagery from artist Ruby Fox - it really captures the magic of Carngafallt,” Kizzy told Leisure Times.

It tells the story through music of RSPB Carngafallt, the home to a complex ecosystem of plants and animals, a Celtic rainforest that lives and breathes in Wales.

In spring, birdsong fills the air. In the summer months, the forest blossoms and we see the early outings of the forest’s newest generation of animals. As the autumn leaves begin to fall, flocks of migrating birds fill the air. In winter the animals seek warmth and food as they wait for spring to arrive again.

Featuring film projections by visual artist Ruby Fox, spend a night and day amongst nature; escape the noise and learn to listen again, as you enter the mesmerizing, haunting, upbeat and invigorating world of “Birdsong / Cân yr Adar”.

The Wyeside concert is part of a tour which includes performances in London, Cardiff and Swansea, while a CD of “Birdsong / Cân yr Adar” has been released by Basho Music.

It’s a show suitable for families, with tickets priced at £5 for under 27s. Watch the trailer at http://www.wyeside.co.uk/events/1869/sinfonia-cymru%3A-birdsong---c%C3%A2n-yr-adar
