THE National Dance Company Wales will be appearing at The Hafren, Newtown, on Thursday night, March 22, as part of their largest ever tour and just prior to heading off to Europe for dates in Germany and Austria.

Their ‘Terra Firma’ tour showcases work by three choreographers who have all been winners of the Copenhagen International Choreography competition in recent year.

The Newtown show has ‘The Green House’, with characters caught in a never-ending loop, by Caroline Finn; ‘Tundra’, an ultra-modern take on a Russian folk dance, by Marcus Morau; and ‘Atalaÿ’, a contagious dance influenced by the warmth of the Mediterranean, by Mario Bermude Gilz.

In addition to Thursday’s show, the company will be staying for a lunchtime Discover Dance class, introduction to dance for young people and adults, at The Hafren on Friday.

There’s more dance at The Hafren next Wednesday and Thursday, March 28 and 29, when it hosts the Cored Cymru free Family Dance Festival.

It will present a selection of Wales’ most exciting dance companies in an entertaining and jam-packed one-hour programme. You will get to see four short pop-up dance pieces, including the award winning National Dance Company Wales’ new work ‘Animatorium’ which premiered at Green Man Festival 2016.

The event is free and suitable for all ages. Performances are at 2 and 6pm on the Wednesday and at noon and 3pm on the Thursday.

On Saturday and Sunday, April 7 and 8, it is Theatr Brycheiniog’s turn to host the Family Dance Festival in Brecon.
