THREE women who have made marathon journeys for different reasons and published books about their exploits, come together to talk about their experiences in a series of evenings starting at Machynlleth on Friday, April 6.
They include Ursula Martin of Machynlleth who walked 1,700 miles along the rivers, mountain paths and ancient byways of Wales over 17 months following her recovery from ovarian cancer, raising more than £11,000 for cancer charities.
The tour follows the launch of Ursula’s book ‘One Woman Walks Wales’ published by Honno.
Ursula will be joined by Emily Chappell, whose bicycle journeys have taken her from her home, near Llanidloes, across several continents, including the mountains and deserts of Asia and the icy winters of Alaska, Yukon and Iceland, with her book ‘What Goes Around’, and Aberystwyth native Hannah Engelkamp, whose own walk around Wales accompanied by a donkey called Chico, is chronicled in her book ‘Seaside Donkey’.
Together, the trio offer an engaging and poignant view on what it is to be a woman travelling through the landscape, and their talks are guaranteed to provoke both laughter and tears. All three will be signing their books after the event.
The Machynlleth date at the Tabernacl starts at 7pm with admission costing £10. They will also be at the Morlan Centre, Aberystwyth, at 7pm on Saturday, April 7; and at at Cardigan Small World Theatre on Sunday, April 8.
